On any given day, owner MacKay Boyer can be found scouring yard sales, flea markets and auctions. “This
has been a passion of mine for as
long as I can remember. It all started
when I was a little girl and my mother
dragged me from garage sale to garage
sale. I loved it then and I love
it even more now!”
And there really is a cottage on the bay that serves as the inspiration
for Bay Cottage. In 1999, MacKay
and her husband Eric purchased a tiny (486 square
feet!) summer cottage on the Chesapeake Bay on Virginia's Eastern Shore.
Complete with white clapboard, beaded board, painted floors,
a screened porch and blinker shutters, the renovation and rejuvenation
of Sandy Paws Cottage has been a labor of love for the Boyers. MacKay
has filled their special retreat with vintage wicker and rattan, old
iron beds, and aged linens--and her garden is overflowing with roses,
hydrangeas, and daisies. Sandy Paws Cottage is THE essence of Bay Cottage
style.
When not spending time at Sandy Paws Cottage, the Boyers live in Richmond,
Virginia with their precocious black lab, appropriately named Bay.
